The Sephora Hello Kitty Collection is an exclusive, limited edition collection made specifically for Hello Kitty lovers and enthusiasts. We here at Beauty Gala are huge Hello Kitty fans, and have been for years, with plenty of memorabilia to show for it! When we heard Sephora released this collection, we booked it to Sephora online, and ordered way too much. Throughout the next several days, we will be showing you the items we purchased, along with photographs, swatches, and honest reviews. The Hello Kitty Brush Set arrived in the cutest packaging I’ve ever seen. Everything was metallic silver and pink, adorned with Hello Kitty’s signature and face. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was going to be love at first sight. I also think that this set is cute enough for non-Hello Kitty lovers…such as tweens/teens, or those of us who are suckers for cute things.
Once you take Hello Kitty out of the package, you have a large silver metallic container, with her head popping off to reveal the 5-piece brush set…
Each of the 5 brushes has synthetic white bristles, with pastel pink at the tips. Each brush is labeled by type, and has an adorable “Hello Kitty” signature on it.
Let’s break down the 5 different types of brushes this set comes with, and how they can be used…
Face Brush
Face Brush: This brush has multiple usages, making it perfect for applying and blending powder, brush, and bronzer. The brush itself is fairly short, making it easy to hold in your hand, and even easier to travel with.
Angled Eyeliner Brush
Angled Eyeliner Brush: This brush is perfect for applying eyeliner to the upper and lower lash line. And, here’s the even better part: it will work with all types of eyeliner, whether it is gel, cream, or shadow. Ironically, I was looking for a good eyebrow brush to use to apply my brow powder with, and this is the perfect size and shape.
Shader/Blending Brush
Shader/Blending Brush: This brush is perfect for working eyeshadow into your crease, outer and inner corners of your eyes, and blending out any harsh lines on your eyelids. The longer, fluffier bristles make it easy to blend out harsh color, and work in tight spots.
Eyeshadow Brush
Eyeshadow Brush: This brush is perfect for applying your eyeshadow straight to your eyelid. The thick, fat bristles will help pat down opaque color.
Lip Brush
Lip Brush: This brush is retractable, making it perfect for applying lip color evenly and without any messes. If you are applying a very rich or bright shade of lipstick, simply swipe this brush along your lip color, and onto your lips. It helps your application to be very precise, and the retractable end keeps the brush clean for traveling or toting with you.
The quality of the brushes is what is on everyone’s mind right now. I would say that the quality of these makeup brushes are somewhere in between…meaning they certainly don’t look and feel cheap (like a drugstore brand), and they certainly don’t have the epic quality of my favorite brushes (Sigma, MAC, etc). It is important to note that the brushes are somewhat small, and fit right into the palm of your hand, with none of them extending past the tip of your longest finger from the end of your palm. This makes them the perfect traveling brushes, or even brushes to keep in your purse with you. However, those looking for a quality set of brushes are going to find that this set is more of a novelty than anything else.
Bottom Line: The brushes are of medium quality, and work well as travel-size brushes. The Hello Kitty metallic silver container is large, sturdy, and cute, and great for holding not only these brushes, but anything else you may want to stick in there. The brushes, being so aesthetically pleasing, are great for all ages, especially those who enjoy feminine, cute items. For Hello Kitty fanatics, this is a must-have, especially since the MAC Hello Kitty Collection a couple of years ago sold out so quickly, and is completely marked up on eBay to this day. If you find yourself cringing at the price of this set, remember that the MAC Hello Kitty brushes are going for over twice this price alone…still!
