China Glaze has released a Halloween 2010 collection called “Awakening,” and it consists of three glittery shades. To see full photographs, swatches, and what I thought of this collection,

Ick-a-bod-y has a dark olive green base (that looks black), with chunky, thick orange glitter. The only thing “ick” about this polish was the formula. It was thick, goopy, sheer, and extremely difficult to work with. I normally have no problem with China Glaze nail polishes ever, but this polish was all over the place. The olive green base is sheer at first, and needs at least 2-3 coats. The glitter builds up into a sticky mess, and it ends up clumping. I was very unimpressed with this shade, and I will take China Glaze’s “Fortune Teller” from last years Halloween collection any day. Thank goodness I bought a backup last year. This shade will go to the back of my collection, and I most likely will not take it out this year.

Mummy May I is a deep wine-colored purple, with flecks of hot pinkish-purple glitter in it. This shade had similar issues as “Ick-a-bod-y,” with a really thick, goopy, sheer formula. It clumped, though not as much as “Ick-a-bod-y,” and fortunately, this shade is pretty enough on the nail to warrant a little frustration.

Zombie Zest is a moss-green (think: goblin, mucky green) shade with flecks of golden glitter in it. This shade was a dream to apply after dealing with the first two, and it also came out the prettiest. Unfortunately, Orly’s Cosmix FX Collection has a shade that is almost an exact dupe, and it is way more impressive and gorgeous. See the comparison:

The Orly version of this shade comes out much more vibrant, and is way prettier on the nail, in my opinion.

Overall, the China Glaze Awakening Collection was a huge disappointment for me. Every year, I look forward to Halloween nail polish collections coming out, and I expected something more innovative from China Glaze. I also think that the formula on 2 out of 3 of these was terrible, and needs some serious improvement.

You can purchase the China Glaze Awakening Collection at Victoria’s Nail Supply online , for $2.75 a bottle. Sally Beauty Supply stores will also be getting this collection in shortly, most likely in September 2010, and will retail for $5.99 there.
