Jason Wu Makes Magic with Navy & Gold Eye Makeup

By | Updated on August 3, 2015

Every designer (and every designer lover) knows that a New York Fashion Week runway show isn’t complete without dramatic makeup, and statement-making eyes are always a must-have — whether smoky, neon, or even bold in their bareness. For the case of Jason Wu’s Fall 2011 RTW collection, he opted to contrast his Versailles-inspired lacy pieces with almost-black navy shadow, accented with glittery gold in the center to emphasize eye shape. Who knew that blue and gold would make for a gorgeous complement to period-inspired pieces? You can get the look yourself — though perhaps a more wearable translation — with similar shades in the form of shadow, liner, and even mascara. For an all-over-the-lid gilded base, prep lids with Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Greed — a glimmering gold — and then smudge MAC Deep Shade eyeshadow all over the lid for full smoky effect. Save a highly-pigmented glittery gold like Lancome Ombre Magnetique shadow in Disco Gold for just the center, most-rounded part of the eye, and define eyes with a dark navy pencil like Laura Mercier Kohl Pencil in Black Navy. Top it all off with a couple coats of Estee Lauder Moisture-Binding Mascara in Rich Navy and you’ve got yourself a runway-inspired beauty look!
